Rose Strickland is having a blue Christmas. Her friend is arrested for attempted murder, her sexy bad guy crush is marked by a hit man, and her boss is locked in an epic smackdown with a rival diner. Determined to save those she loves, Rose embarks on an investigation more tangled than a box of last year's tree lights. With her eclectic gang at the ready, Rose stumbles across dead bodies, ex-cons, chop shops, jealous girlfriends, jilted lovers, and a gaggle of strippers in a battle for freedom she might not survive.
Part of the Henery Press Mystery Series Collection, if you like one, you'll probably like them all! Last Diner Standing is the second book in the Rose Strickland humorous mystery series. Bonus: Includes book club discussion questions.
My Review
Where is the money... anyone?
4.5 smoking guns …stars
Hotness factor: Guns and Roses?
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
I’m a recently reacquainted amateur sleuth’s fan and Rose Strickland fits the bill. She’s smart, driven and she doesn’t things in black or white. Her world is very grey and throughout the book you never really sure whether she likes it or not. Who wouldn’t feel a bit guilty about having the hot for a criminal? No I’m really asking? And so is the author at the end of the book…
The story was very compelling; it started as a simple domestic disturbance gone badly to a hit on a known criminal and a missing load of cash…oh that missing cash. My only issue with this great novel was the POV. I really like Rose but because it was a mystery I would have enjoyed reading Sullivan, Roxie or even Axton’s POV. With the focus mainly on Rose, I got stuck when she got stuck, I got run over when she was run over and I got beat up (that was a hard scene to read but only because it was amazingly well done) when she got beat up.
I’m not going to say any else about the plot as I want other readers to dive in and enjoy it as well. It’s well written and entertaining. But don’t be a fool like me, read the first book to get to know the characters first.
I highly recommend!
