This was supposed to be an easy case…
Sémya Slotin had spent the last three years living in London with her best friend Polliannah Koch staying away from solving cases. After Hawaii, she was taking a break from puzzles, cases and mysteries that could potentially get her killed. Instead, she had been doing her second and third favorite things, drinking and selling expensive vintage wines and having earthshattering sex with the mysterious, sexy, beautiful but ever so secretive Josh Heinz. Life in London was good….until her funds ran out. Too much wine drinking, not enough wine selling!When fashion designer and adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, summoned her back to Paris to hire her for what Sémya considered being the easiest case of her amateur sleuth career, all she could think of and see was money signs and a well-deserved Cuban holiday once it was solved.
What Sémya didn’t see was her stumbling on the fresh corpse of supermodel Johanna Cartier. She didn’t think that male model turned fashion designer Julian Marais-Caldwin, who also happened to be Sémya’s ex, would be suspected of brutally murdering her. Johanna was his girlfriend, his muse and he loved her. Sémya didn’t see the dead bodies piling up or the conspiracy theories.
Sémya was a little rusty. But then again, it was supposed to be an easy case and she was going to solve it. One vintage wine at a time… Sémya Slotin was officially back in business!

Chapter 6
Detective Chief Inspector Ally Gibbons looked at Sémya Slotin and Eileen Clarke. The young Miss Clarke was still very shaky; she was the one who initially discovered the body. But Sémya Slotin was oddly calm. She was just observing. “Get me everything on these two,” she told Detective Inspector Herring next to her. She walked toward Sémya, “I’m Detective Chief Inspector Ally Gibbons. I’m sorry to meet under these circumstances.”
Sémya shook her hand, “You mean we could have met at a party instead?” Sense of humour and arrogance… another know-it-all. “Sémya Louise Slotin, nice to meet you,” she smiled back and kept looking at the forensic team. “I’m guessing you want to take my deposition?”
“Sure. Is that a faint French accent I hear?” Ally said. She wanted to make Sémya feel like she was in control. She would get more information out of her this way.
“Parts of me are…well Eileen is still in shock so I’ll go first. It’s a long story,” she chuckled back. She wrapped her arm around Eileen and they walked back to the kitchen. She put her long hair back in a tight bun and immediately looked much younger. “Eileen picked me up from my flat in Camden Town around six this morning. We needed to speak to Julian.”
“That’s Julian Marais-Caldwin. His car, mobile and keys were in the house. About what?” Ally said.
She and Eileen nodded back. “Johanna…she’s been scheming to have him fired from his own fashion house. I had the proof and I needed to let him know.”
“So…what you are telling me is that the victim was scheming against her boyfriend and he vanished?” Ally asked. This was going to be an easier case than she thought.
“Really, this is how you’re going to handle it? You’re just going to assume that Julian is guilty. No evidence, time or cause of death, motive?” Sémya asked Ally.
Someone watched a lot of television. Ally looked at the still very quiet Eileen. “I believe you gave me the motive Miss Slotin,” Ally added a little out of patience.
“Johanna Cartier was a sociopath who used her assistant Emma as a patsy to have Julian voted out of his own company. And Emma didn’t even know. I have her laptop in Eileen’s car. We haven’t seen Emma since the day before yesterday. Johanna’s accomplice’s name is Peter,” Sémya said without breaking eye contact with Ally.
“Is that all?” Ally said. She put her pad down. Maybe it wasn’t such an easy case.
“They left the office around six o’clock last night…Julian and Johanna,” Eileen mumbled.
“She had cameras all around the house so we can check,” Ally told her.
“Check the entry logs for the code too,” Eileen said. She squeezed Sémya’s hand.
“Her makeup… she still has her makeup from yesterday on her. I was raised by a supermodel, Detective Chief Inspector, it doesn’t matter how tired they are. They remove their makeup,” Sémya said.
“Your point Miss Slotin?” Ally asked but opened her pad again.
“We found her just after around half past seven, Detective Chief Inspector, she had pallor mortis and this paleness usually occurs within twenty minutes after death. But rigor mortis hadn’t set in yet. Her body wasn’t stiffed at all, it usually occurs at least three hours after death. In fact she was still warm. Doesn’t it seem strange to you too?” Sémya squeezed Eileen’s hand back.

I moved back to Canada in 1999 after high school in Libreville to study Cinematography and Digital movie production in Laval University in Quebec then The International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto. After graduating in 2003, I decided to sell my soul to the corporate world and worked in the Benefit Outsourcing Industry for seven in Toronto before reconnecting with her first passion writing.

Catchy tune and dancers tales will be release in January 2014. Bird Of Prey, my first mystery novel will be release in October 7th, 2013 on paperback before its wide release in November 25th, 2013. It will be followed by The Plot Thickens (a novella) in January 2014 and Polliannah Got Married! in April 2014 or earlier.
