Highland Beauty

Blurb
Everyone knows about Sadie MacNeil's secret apart from her ex-boyfriend, Calum. It was her secret that drove them apart. Having decided that the single life was the best thing for her, Sadie has returned to Kilrigh to begin again. She doesn't bank on Calum following her up to the small Hebridean island.
Try as she may, Sadie can't convince either Calum or herself that she's over him. She begins to find ways to continue their relationship while keeping her secret—ways that require her to be inventive in the bedroom. But will the consequences of an irresponsible night on the beach be the thing that pulls them together or destroys their relationship forever?

Excerpt
Looking out on the over the inky black waters, with his arm around her shoulder and their bare feet touching in the cold water, Sadie could believe that she was happy. It was the most content she had felt since… well, she couldn't remember the last time she had felt so content. Probably before the accident, and that had been years ago.
They chatted about Brodie's baby and the gossip on the island and about their friends back in Glasgow. She nestled closer into his side, and he welcomed her, hugging her tighter. Then he turned to face her, took her in his arms and placed his lips against hers. He waited patiently for her to make her decision.
She stuck her tongue out and licked his lower lip. As she ran her tongue along his lip again, she realised the inevitability of this moment. They wanted each other. And sex would happen. But she had to control it. To not let him see her stomach. To not put herself up for rejection. Maybe there were ways around the problem.
As she opened her lips to let his warm, wet tongue sweep around her mouth, his grip on her ass tightened. She pressed her hips against his sporran. She needed to get rid of the bloody thing so she could feel his cock press against her. Their tongues, lips, and teeth were locked in a battle—a battle of mutual enjoyment.
As he pulled his mouth away, only to change the angle of his head and capture her lips again, she moaned. It was a moan of both pleasure and anticipation. She had her plan in place. She could give him what he wanted and he'd still be none the wiser.
She pulled away and caught his hand, guiding him back to shore and up into the caves. There was an area of cave wall which was perfectly flat, if not entirely smooth. She'd done her fair share of heavy petting down in these caves as a teenager. And now she was going to go all the way with the man she loved.

What does Author Krystal Brookes want us to know about her?
Thank you so much for having me.

As a writer, what drives you?
A need to prove myself, to others but, more importantly, to me.

Can you tell us about Highland Beauty?

This is the fourth book in the Kilrigh Heat Series.  Although all the books stand alone as separate stories. It is a contemporary story set on the fictional Scottish island of Kilrigh—so there are a few men in kilts. Here’s the Blurb: Everyone knows about Sadie MacNeil's secret apart from her ex-boyfriend, Calum.

Happy Ever After or Happy For Now? Why?
Always Happily Ever After… because I’m a romantic. Besides I think I’m at that age where I would want to settle down if Nathan Fillion …I mean Mr Right came along.  - He's Canadian like me!

How much of yourself is hidden in the characters in your books?
I think there are elements of me but I think it is my wishes that are more prevalent.  I think my heroes tend to be more beta male because I like sensitive men. That’s not to say I mind if they punch someone who insults me.

(In your humble opinion) best and worst book to movie adaptations…
Best is the BBC adaption of Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle). Worst is the Keira Knightly movie of the same book. – I totally agree! Or the one with Lawrence Olivier they didn’t even get the period right…

Do you have specific techniques you use to develop the plot and stay on track?
I’m a complete pantser so I really don’t. With the last two Kilrigh heat Series, I got my publisher to give me a release date so I had a deadline. Sadly the deadline for Highland Beauty ended up being pushed back.

If you were a character in your book you would be…
I’d have to be Sadie because Calum is cute.

When were you first published? How were you discovered?
I was published in April 2012 in an anthology from Pink Petal Books (Now Jupiter Gardens Press). I saw the submission call, wrote the story and sent it in, never expecting it to be accepted since it was my first submission. And got a really big surprise when it was accepted.

Time for over and under… (In your humble opinion)famous overrated/underrated book? Overrated/underrated movie?
Victor Victoria. It’s an old movie but it is so funny.

Time for favourite: song, color, book, TV series, movie, food, drink…
Song: Fields of the Young by Donnie Munro
Book: Bridget Jones – Edge of Reason (the interview with Colin Firth is hilarious) – It was priceless!
TV Series: Toss up between The West Wing and Star Trek Voyager
Food: pepperoni pizza

People are always asking me this so I’m paying it forward.
Where does your inspiration come from? All around me. Generally though from watching TV, reading books and watching movies. Something that’s not been examined sparks my muse and I’m off.

What are you working on right now
For various reasons I am about to change my pen name and my sub genre. I am currently writing a regency romance. Besides it gives me an excuse to watch Colin Firth.

If you could have a power or ability what would it be?
To type faster

She has a passion for reading Regency romance and looks forward to the day she meets her own Mr Knightly. Having been put off both reading and writing in school, Krystal is slightly ashamed that she has not read many of the classics.  Her aim for 2013 is to finish Jane Austen’s works and also read “Jane Eyre.” In her spare time, Krystal enjoys driving up through the Highlands of Scotland, attending conventions and meeting hunky celebrities.
