This Could Have Been Our Song follows Lucia Mpobo-Riddel's life as she pursues her dream in music. She came from a family of dancers and was expected to continue the family tradition. On her birthday, she meets and falls for another musician whose family expected him to attend medical school and become a doctor. This tale follows their adventures in a "shoulda, coulda, woulda" sort of way. Marcus evades questions about why he was in Toronto that night which brings about more complications. I wondered if their relationship would survive.

Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba is a great storyteller and sets a nice pace in this very interesting read. While this plot is complex it is also very realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the descriptions of the music, the dancing and singing. The author researched this subject well and brought fascinating adventures to life, inspiring me to travel to Canada. This Could Have Been Our Song is a great story and I look forward to reading more books by Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba.
